150. Moon Eclipse and the Life Formation

I saw Orion, venus and a cheese ball in the air.

Moon eclipse is the shadow of earth produces by the sun which projected on the moon. The eclipse lasted a few hours. It started after 8pm and ended at 11pm on Dec 9, 2011.

In my childhood days although we knew the truth of moon eclipse but the elders passed down the idea of celestial dog bites the moon. In those days we had fun by hitting the gong loud, chased away the sky (heavenly) dog (天狗食月) .

When we get older, some of my friends become more emotional. I hope we will be more logical and scientific in understand our universe and the nature. In science there is no place for superstitious and biased views.

This year we see a slightly red moon. When we see a red moon, we are seeing the red light that wasn’t scattered, but the blue and green light have been scattered away back to the space. That’s why the Moon looks red. In the wavelength spectrum a slower red light @ 700nm range having longer wavelength can penetrate the earth atmosphere reaching our eyes. It is easier than the shotrest blue light @400nm range. Another reason for red moon is also due to during elcipse there is no sunlight going to the moon and the refelcted red light from the earth reaches the moon and makes the moon turns red.

Origin of Life. Ideas are for us to ponder upon:

The presence of moon affecting our life, for example, for every four, eight or twelve hours there is a high tide. The cycle, it affects the earth magnetic field, it affects our body cells reproduction, it affects women menstrual cycle, it affects the positive and negative charges of body cells (ie sperms and eggs formation). It affects gender and maintain gender well-balanced ratio, it affects our days of birth. In short, the moon to a greater extent affects life on earth.

Two different cultures and different interpretation:

In Chinese culture, Moon is passive and Sun is active and powerful. They are in Ying and Yang relationships, when ying and yang combined then lives fluorish. In that sense, Chinese culture is more balanced, harmonised and adoptable, with less confrontational approach when dealing with conflicts, but Chinese culture falls into a victim of poor social grace, this is a bigger trap of its recent culture. The poor social grace, in general might be due to the effects of few thousand years of dynasty rule, improper transition of a new state, for each fall of dynasty which followed by killing, instability and endless turbulence.

Chinese culture strikes to maintain and promote peace and harmony but when Moon and Sun harmony relationship is broken, and when Chinese go to war, there is one outcome, we have better run for life.

In Western culture, Sun is powerful and dominant, the emphasis is on the sun. The moon is in a very minor role, the growth of western culture although is strong but it has its inherent weaknesses. In my view, fine tunning of western culture is necessary. Keep the creativity & innovation part and enhance its social and relation model.

Western positive style of freedom of speech in general is what Chinese culture needs the most, to catch up and to learn from it. In my opinion it may take 100 years for a transformation of a Chinese dynasty culture into a democracy culture. First the people need to have more confidence in themdelves.
